ReSashay has made an effort to measure and size all dresses in a consistent
manner. All of the dresses in the ReSashay inventory are consignments and most
of the dresses do not have a manufacturers’ size tag. This is because many
of them are custom made or made by an individual. Even if the dress were made
by a manufacturer, the tag often times no longer exists. The dresses listed
on the web site are categorized based upon the ReSashay estimated size.
In the detailed description for each dress we list:
- Armpit to armpit fabric measurement, across the front:
This is the armpit to armpit measurement across the front of the dress. It
is the length, in inches, from underarm seam to underarm seam of the dress,
across the front.
- The waist measurement, in inches. If there is elastic
in the waist band of the dress, you will see two measurements: Waist – unstretched and
Waist – stretched. If there is no elastic or stretch in the waist, you will
see 1 measurement: Fixed Waist.
- Length of dress from waist to hem: The length of the dress,
in inches, from the waistband of the dress to the hem.
- ReSashay estimated Size: We use the garment measurements
and the size chart above to calculate an estimated size.
- Manufacturer label Size: Where available, we include the
size information from the manufacturer’s label.
Please note: All measurements are approximate.
How does ReSashay use the measurements to calculate the estimated
dress size?
- We take the Armpit to armpit fabric measurement and double it. We then
subtract 1 inch. This gives us a measurement which approximates the fabric
measurement of the dress at the bust. Due to the darts sewn into most dresses,
this is more reliable than a bust measurement. Using this measurement, we
select the bust size from the size chart above. We will select the size from
the chat where the bust size is equal to or is less than the fabric measurement.
- Next, we take the fabric measurements of the waist. If the waist is fixed,
we use that measurement. If the waist has elastic, we use the mean of the
stretched and unstretched measurements. We select the size from the chart
where the waist size is equal to or is less than the fabric measurement.
- When the bust size and the waist size are equal, we use that as the ReSashay
estimated size. When the two sizes differ, we select the smaller of the two
sizes as the ReSashay estimated dress size.
